Mazenod’s history

Mazenod is a hamlet in the Rural Municipality of Sutton No. 103, on Highway 43 about 93 kilometres southwest of Moose Jaw. It lies within a wider region of French Catholic settlement centred on the town of Gravelbourg.

The hamlet takes its name from Father Eugène de Mazenod, founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a religious order that was active in the settlement of Western Canada.

Mazenod was once an incorporated village. On January 1, 2002, it was restructured as a hamlet under the jurisdiction of the RM of Sutton, which is how it remains today.
